BIOGRAPHY
RONALD MAAS
Ron
studied bass guitar and piano at the jazz department
of Utrecht Conservatoire (NL). Between 2004 and 2010
he worked with jazz quartet Perron19, with who he
released two albums (selection
>).
Ron has always been a pop song writer. Together with
Ruud Bakker and a host of other band members he's
been on the Dutch music scene from 2007 till 2015
with the band Number Nine. The song Sun Sun Sun
of the debut EP earned them the 3FM Serious Talent
status (comparable to BBC Introducing) in 2009,
which got Number Nine regular airplay on national
radio. In 2012 the band brought out their first full
length album New Ways,
with which they toured in Germany and in 2014 the
second album Wiser Than
Before brought them to the UK.
To widen his horizon he joined the band Audio Adam
from 2011 till 2015. In that time the quartet was
very successful with multiple singles on national
radio and shows at festivals and venues around the
country, including supporting Counting Crows at
Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam.
In 2015 Ron moved to London, after which he started
working with JAYA, Valerio
Lysander, Annie & the Make Believe and
various other artists. He co-founded the Sexy Indie
Rock band PaperWolf.
Over the course of a year they played dozens of
iconic London venues including Barfly and Proud
Camden, released an album, toured in the UK and
received airplay on BBC Introducing. In the spring
of 2018 Ron released a solo EP titled ARIES to
critical acclaim.
In the summer of 2018 Ron relocated to Manchester.
Since then he's worked with Caoilfhionn Rose, Hannah
Ashcroft and various other artists, whilst still
releasing work with JAYA. There's a full length
album of psych pop in the pipe line, but that's
something for the future. Currently he's a regular
on double bass at the jazz clubs Matt&Phreds and
Sonata.
